Safeguarding Coordinator Jobs Description
Level 3 – a CRB check will be required as the responsibilities of the post require that;
You have contact with children and young people either frequently (once a week or more) or intensively (four days in one month or more or overnight), or; during field visits.
You are responsible for implementing the vetting process.
Child Safeguarding is an organisational priority as we strive to make Save the Children safe for children.
The Child Safeguarding Coordinator will take a lead in driving our endeavours in this key focussed area of work across the country office. The Coordinator will combine elements of capacity building and monitoring whilst enforcing compliance and accountability, management and investigation as well as aspects of advocacy in line with the Child Safeguarding policy.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Head of Advocacy, campaign, Communication, Media and Safe guarding

The role holder will work as part of ACCM team and 11 CS focal people’s people located cross South Sudan country office

These requirements apply equally to our work in humanitarian emergencies as well as to our development work.
The post holder will work with the HACCM to ensure recommendations from the CSG Audit are followed up and implemented in the SSD CO.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Child Safeguarding Leader and Champion across the country program
Act as an ambassador for Child Safeguarding at all times.
Role model high levels of professional safeguarding behaviour and maintain the standards required by the Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.
Undertake clear, strong advocacy in line with the Child Safeguarding Policy & PSEA with all actors.
Deliver high quality, accessible and reliable technical support, guidance and capacity to emergency/humanitarian response and programs team
Establish and strengthen Country office child & Adult safeguarding networks to champion policy implementation
Coach and support Focal Points in implementation of their roles and responsibilities.
Country roll-out and maintenance of training programmes
Deliver a suite of mandatory core training workshops as part of the roll-out to enable staff with key responsibilities to undertake their roles and mainstream safeguarding functions.
Deliver on-going induction, training and refresher training as appropriate.
Review and strengthen Child & Adult Safeguarding systems within partner agencies, planning and delivering training programs accordingly. Adult & Child Safeguarding Standards are applied throughout the country office
Coordinate with the National Child safeguarding Coordination committee and monitor the overall implementation of the CSP in the country programme and ensure that the safeguarding mechanisms are in place and are subject to continuous monitoring/review;
Oversee, monitor and enforce follow-up of policy implementation in order to ensure maximum levels of compliance and competence.
Identify and utilise opportunities to integrate safeguarding approaches into all aspects of our work.
Apply critical analysis to ensure that we live up to our commitment to making Save the Children safe for children by:
o Ensuring child safeguarding concerns are reported effectively in line with the policy, acting as the country referral point
o Ensuring PSEA cases are reported effectively in line with the policy, acting as the country referral point
o Ensure that concerns are followed up safely, effectively and efficiently and to the required standards.
o Provide guidance and undertake case management and investigations of reported concerns, sometimes in challenging environments and to rigorous timescales and standards.
o Collaborating with key all departments and sectors within country program to ensure that Child Safeguarding is integrated into all systems

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
University degree in social work, development studies, psychology or equivalent social sciences,
Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience of child protection/child safeguarding practice within government of NGO setting.
Experience of a lead role in advocacy or policy implementation either in the field of Child Protection/Safeguarding or Human Resource to achieve policy change and compliance.
Extensive experience of building personal internal and external networks.
Experience and ability to plan and undertake training programmes/workshops in child protection/safeguarding at a range of levels (e.g. field workers, mangers, senior managers and decision makers)
Ability to liaise and provide technical support to managers in aspects of delivery child sensitive and safe programs.
Strong communication, interpersonal and report writing skills.
Ability to provide remote support and establish supportive relationships and networks.
Ability to travel and work within challenging environments – 50%
Experience of managing as well as undertaking complex child protection/safeguarding investigations and or disciplinary investigations
Evidence of professional expertise, personal development and learning in the field of child care
Experience of work related travel in challenging environments
