Water and Sanitation Technician Jobs Description
Install, service, maintain and repair, in compliance with recognized standards and regulations pertaining to safety and installation codes, buildings, camps /sanitary infrastructures, or other structures including sanitation facilities such as: ablution units, bathrooms and toilets, laundries and kitchen water and wastewater systems.
Diagnose technical faults and carry-out remedy for malfunctioning or defective sanitary installations.
Perform diagnostics and preventive maintenance of installations of plumbing and pipe network.
Operation and maintenance (O&M) of water supply and sanitation system including Drinking water treatment plant, Conventional water treatment plant, Conventional activated sludge (CAS) system, Wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), Centralized wastewater conveyance system, Water supply network system etc.
Closely supervise and manage contractor’s performance for the water and sanitation related service providers and construction contractors.
Perform, report and keep record of regular tests of water and wastewater sample
Conduct performance review meeting of contractors and service providers.
Perform technical or other assessments of installations and prepare technical or other reports.
Apply and ensure adherence to safety programmes related to the safe operation of the building and maintenance trade.
Conducting in-house training to tradesmen and artisans on the imaging technical skills in the new related construction methods, installation of specialized equipment, fault finding and remedy.
Review and recommend for approval work orders and assign day to day repair and maintenance tasks to tradesmen and technicians being supervised.
Inspect and report on construction project work and maintenance work carried out either by contractors or tradesmen and staff under supervision and ensure proper utilization of available resources.
Read and interpret specifications and technical drawings, schedules, manuals for related Construction projects, installations, and upgrade repair of infrastructure.
Resolve problems; inspect quality of work and work performance.
Maintain records relating to inventories, work orders and general correspondence.
Prepare bills of quantities and costing for infrastructure projects.
Assist in carrying out technical assessments of existing buildings and infrastructure.
Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for infrastructure projects and maintenance programmes.
Assist in technically evaluating bids and proposals for related construction projects.
Provide inputs periodically for assessment of performance levels of assigned local and international staff.
Prepare the estimate and maintain the minimum stock level of the spare parts required for water and wastewater treatment plants, plumbing materials, chemicals and enzymes required for water and wastewater treatment, reagents and laboratory equipment required for water quality test.
Record keeping of the day-to-day operation and maintenance of water and wastewater plants, production of treated water, wastewater, meter readings, and chemical consumptions.
Alert the Supervisor of Unit / Section of unusual occurrence and/or damage that have taken place or are likely to occur.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Technical or vocational certificate in Water Resources Engineering, Water & Sanitation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Water sample analysis, installation, operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, Wastewater treatment plants and equipment is required.
A minimum of six (06) years of relevant experience in the field of Water and Sanitation and/or plumbing works is required.
Experience in operating, maintenance and repair of water/wastewater treatment equipment/installation is desirable.
Experience in international operations in a post conflict environment is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
